Term 2 Newsletter

Language work this term will focus on consolidating Jolly Phonics sounds, rhyming, story writing and introducing news story writing. Handwriting will continue to focus on the correct letter formation and we will progress on to size, proportion and position later in the term. Reading will continue to be taught in class daily through the Highland Literacy Project format and information will be sent home as we move on to new stages.

This term we will continue to work on numbers to 10. We will be moving on to sequencing and numbers before, after, between. We will then move on to 1 or 2 more than/less than before addition within 10. Later in the term we will also be looking at coin recognition, 2D and 3D shape and working on length. We will also be doing some data handling as part of our topic work.

Social Subjects/Health

Our main topic this term is Handa’s Surprise. We will be reading the story and doing lots of fun, related activities. We hope to have a tasting afternoon with lots of different fruits. In our classroom we will be having a fruit and vegetable shop as our role play area and we hope to create a wonderful Handa’s Surprise display. As part of this we will be looking at the senses to tie in with our Science work. Also in Science we have been looking at materials. We recently went on a material hunt around the school.

This term Miss Taylor will be doing some work on Noah’s Ark with the pupils before moving on to the Christmas story.
