Term 3 Newsletter

I hope that you all had a lovely Christmas break! Last term the pupils made good progress with addition to 10, handwriting, writing, reading and rhyming. They enjoyed the work completed on Handa’s Surprise and also Noah’s Ark.

Language

This term we will be progressing work on word building, rhyming, independent story writing and news diaries. Children will be supported with independent writing and our main writing targets will be finger spaces and sounding words carefully. We will continue with handwriting, encouraging correct formation, size and proportion. Reading will continue to be taught in class daily through the Highland Literacy Project format.

Maths

This term we will be working on the following:

  • Consolidating addition to 10 and then moving on to subtraction within 10
  • Money ( Using money- 1p 2p 5p 10p 20p 50p £1, £2)
  • Telling the time
  • Position and movement –using correct language to describe direction, position and movement.

Science/Health

With Miss Taylor the pupils will be learning about electricity and how to keep themselves safe. They will also learn about people who help us and their roles.

Topic

Our topic this term is The Circus! We are very excited about this and it will link in with various curricular areas. The pupils will have ownership over their learning and their learning environment. We hope to create a fantastic Circus themed classroom. Towards the end of Term 3 we plan to hold a special Open Afternoon where parents and relatives will be invited into the school so that we can share our learning with you. We can’t wait!

As part of our topic we are looking for empty shoe boxes to make a Circus model. If you have any that you don’t need could you pop them into school. Thank you!

Homework

This term we will try to create a bit of variety in homework tasks. Reading will be taught in class and reinforced at home. Word boxes will be heard on a Monday and Wednesday and Maths homework will now be given weekly on Thursday’s to reinforce what is being taught in class.

Show and Tell

I have decided to introduce a rota system for Show and Tell to encourage every child to have their turn of showing the class something that is special to them or telling them something exciting about their weekend. Please take a note of your child’s date so that they know when it is their turn:

Monday 13th January – Lee B, Danielle, Katie

Monday 20th January – Athrun, Eva, Dylan

Monday 27th January – Fernn, Logan, Lee M

Monday 3rd February – Cameron, Kaitlyn, Gregor

Monday 10th February – Alex, Aoron, Zara

Monday 24th February – Aiden, Summer, Luke

Monday 3rd March – Victoria, Kaeden, Hannah

Other information:

· It is most helpful is a gym kit is left in school at all times. Please ensure that you have named all of your child’s clothing. All jewellery must be removed for P .E lessons.
