I am very happy with how well the pupils have settled into the class routines during term 1. They have made great progress with their Jolly Phonics sounds, their reading and learning numbers to 10. Please continue to practise these at home to ensure they are consolidated.
This term will focus on completing our Jolly Phonics sounds and ensuring they are consolidated before continuing with word building. We will then be moving on to rhyming, story writing and introducing news writing. As detailed in the Little Big Writing leaflet given out at the start of term, we will place a large emphasis on talking and encouraging the pupils to sound words for themselves. Pupils will be given some “Talk Homework.” This will be given on a sticker which will be given to pupils to put on their jumper. The “Talk Homework” will link in with their writing topic for that week and it would be greatly beneficial to spend some time talking over the topic with your child. Handwriting will continue to focus on the correct letter formation and we will progress on to size, proportion and position later in the term. Reading will continue to be taught in class Monday to Thursday using the Dandelion books. Please continue to learn and revise all of the key words for this scheme.
Show and Tell will be each Monday morning. Each child is encouraged to share with the class some news, or show something that is special to them. This term we will begin a rota system to ensure that everyone is given an opportunity to be involved. Please take a note of your child’s turn. If your child becomes very anxious about this please let me know. If necessary they could wait until Term 3 to have their turn.
Monday 9th November – Jaimee, Ryan, Hayden

This term we will continue to consolidate numbers to 10. We will be moving on to sequencing and numbers before, after, between. We will then move on to 1 or 2 more than/less than before addition and subtraction within 5. We will also be doing some data handling as part of our topic work. For our shape work we are now looking at 3D shapes and the links between them and 2D shapes.
Social Subjects/Health and Wellbeing
Our main topic this term is a book study of “Pumpkin Soup” by Helen Cooper. We will be reading the story and doing lots of fun, related activities. We hope to have a tasting afternoon with lots of different fruits and vegetables. We also intend on making our very own pumpkin soup towards the end of term! In our classroom we will be having a kitchen area as our role play area.
We will be learning about the Christmas story and how people celebrate Christmas.
This term we will begin to learn some key French phrases.
PE will continue to be on a Monday. This term we are also going to be having a football session with Ross Suttar on Wednesdays. It is most helpful is a gym kit is left in school at all times. All jewellery must be removed for P.E lessons.
Another reminder to ensure that you have named all of your child’s clothing and belongings.
