Jolly Phonics

We use the Jolly Phonics scheme to teach the letter sounds to the children. This uses a variety of activities to help children learn and retain the sounds. We have enjoyed painting, using play-doh, using sand and writing our new letter sounds. We have learned songs to help us remember the actions and sounds too. It is lots of fun. More information was given in packs when pupils started the scheme. This year we will be teaching a new sound Mondays to Thursdays and spending Fridays consolidating all of the sounds.

The Jolly Phonics sound groups are as follows:

1. s, a, t, i, p, n

2. c k, e, h, r, m, d

3. g, o, u, l, f, b

4. ai, j, oa, ie, ee, or

5. z, w, ng, v, oo

6. y, x, ch, sh, th

7. qu, ou, oi, ue, er, ar
